The club already had a starting point.
FTS Mu Alpha Theta is a math honors society at Terry Sanford High School in North Carolina. The students had developed their own logo, bringing together mathematical equations, shield, the school mascot, the Mu Alpha Theta mark, and a sword representing the club's role as its "protectors."
The advisor wanted to develop the idea into a more polished identity that students could recognise and feel proud to call their own.

Simplifying the Mark
Refining the Original Concept
I simplified the equations into recognisable math symbols to make it easier to read, while keeping a clear connection to the club’s focus on mathematics. The shield anchors the identity, while the pencil replaces the original sword as a familiar symbol of learning and student life. Subtle Mu Alpha Theta references are also worked into the mark, connecting it back to the club’s wider organisation.

Defining the Club’s Look
Defining the Club’s Look
The logo became the foundation for a broader identity designed to feel fun, energetic, and distinctly connected to the school and the club. I developed the supporting elements to give the identity a consistent look across different formats.
The palette combines Terry Sanford's school colours with tones that reflect the club's energy and character. The combination of red, blue, and yellow also pays tribute to the moderator's Filipino heritage.
